WHU accelerates "digital+" transformation in higher education

May 17, 2025

At the 2025 World Digital Education Conference on May 15, Zhang Pingwen, president of 秀色直播 (WHU), delivered a keynote speech highlighting four key shifts in talent cultivation for the digital age: from the transmission of knowledge to the enhancement of capabilities, from single-discipline to interdisciplinary integration, from passive learning to active exploration, and from test scores to holistic evaluation.

Zhang noted that traditional teaching models can no longer meet the needs of today's rapidly evolving world. In response, WHU has launched 15 new "digital+" interdisciplinary majors and 30 related experimental classes, and introduced 17 general and core courses – including Introduction to Artificial Intelligence – to integrate data science into a wide range of disciplines.

To meet national strategic priorities, WHU has established several cross-disciplinary institutes and schools, including the Institute of Mathematics and Intelligence, the School of Artificial Intelligence, and the Department of Robotics. In 2025, the university plans to add new programs in robotics engineering, digital economy, smart cities, and more. It is also developing dual-degree pilot programs and micro-majors in fields such as low-altitude economy, AI, and digital innovation.

Zhang emphasized that higher education must shape students into future leaders. WHU is committed to advancing digital education through reform, innovation, and global collaboration.
